Black Stars coach endorses new date for AFCON

Kwesi Appiah has has expressed his joy over the shift of the Africa Cup of Nations from January to June-July

The Africa Cup of Nations will be held for the first time in June-July like the FIFA World Cup and European championships-played when the European season is over.

The continental showpiece has been under criticisms over the years from coaches in European league because they lose their African players to the competition, while their leagues are ongoing.

And Ahmad the new President of the confederation has granted the request of the people who believe the AFCON should be shifted to June and July, so that it won’t conflict with the European league which several African players.

James Kwesi Appiah, the head coach of the Black Stars has supported the decision by CAF to change the timing for the AFCON.

“It’s a good idea for the tournament to be played alongside the Euros, it will give the African players sound mind to play their heart out since there is no European club matches going on,” he said.
